This position offers the unique opportunity to work and learn with an experienced farmer, along with one other person, occasional volunteers, and Henry the farm dog in a commercial organic market garden setting. This job is particularly suited to people who want to gain first hand knowledge about commercial vegetable farming and those who are wondering whether farming is right for them. Having a strong work ethic and being excited to learn about vegetable farming is more important than experience for this position.

Three or five days per week, 8–4:30 each day
April through October

Farm Description

Rolling Hill Farm is a 13 acre small, mixed production commercial organic farm. On just over one acre, including two greenhouses, we grow a wide variety of vegetables and raise egg laying hens and broiler chickens. This food is sold at farmer's markets, to restaurants, and to a CSA. Beautiful location, overlooking the Catskills.

Job Description

Responsibilities

The job will involve most of the activities required to run the farm: Seeding in the greenhouse, preparing beds, planting, weeding, irrigating, harvesting and processing vegetables, occasional deliveries, tending to the laying hens, organizing and cleaning. Part of the philosophy at RHF is to continuously learn and improve how we do things—this keeps things interesting for everyone—so part of your job will be to bring your input.

Compensation

$17–20/hr + excess vegetables to take home
